How I Manage Midterms and Family Life Effectively

So, my son turns 12 tomorrow and I have a party planned with friends and family this weekend. Last week was my daughter’s 15th birthday which turned out well. All of this has really made me reflect on my schedule as a single parent and a fulltime college student.

I also have midterms, exams and a speech due by Sunday. Honestly it is really taking so much time. I am a person that values balance overall. Balancing work, school, my business, and family has definitely been difficult. School has definitely been tipping the scales lately, so I have come up with a plan. Starting in the morning I dedicate at least 90 minutes towards my website and engaging in this new community. This aligns with my personal and social goals. Then after getting my kids to school I spend three hours on my HIST136 and 2 hours on my CMST101 with an extended coffee break in-between. This aligns with my future and academic goals. Then I have work which is all financially required at this time. At night I have an evening routine as follows, homework, kids’ homework, dinner, family time, personal reading and journaling. As hectic as it sounds it is actually harder to meet all these goals by just winging it. If it is not structured the scales always tip more in one direction and I fall much further behind. I am curious how many people follow routines like this? Is this a part of growing up or am I just being too meticulous. I am curious.

  1. I think when we humans find what works for us to get all that needs to be done. For example I need to make a list then I must set my phone time for 15 min. This is annoying sometimes for others that hear my alarm going off every 15 min. but it keeps me on track of my tasks and all gets done. Soon because times flies life will become simpler and your days won’t be so full or full with new challenges hahaha.

    1. Wow that is really smart I think I will try that during my study time just to ensure I am still studying and not getting sidetracked.
